Updated Sept. 11: Stromboli Family Restaurant on Wisconsin Avenue in Chevy Chase plans to close its doors Sept. 15.
Co-owner Elise Tomasello said her family was closing the restaurant after 37 years because it was time.
“It’s the best decision right now for the family,” Tomasello said.
She said the owner of the Moby Dick House of Kabob chain is planning to take over the restaurant and move the kebob eatery’s location next door into the Stromboli location. After that, the Moby Dick owner plans to re-open Stromboli in the current Moby Dick location at the beginning of next year.
A staff member at Moby Dick confirmed Monday that the restaurant would be relocating into the Stromboli location.
A letter was posted to Stromboli’s door this week letting customers know about the change.
“It has been our sincere pleasure to serve the wonderful people of this community,” the letter signed by the Tomasello family says. “We would like to thank all of our customers for their loyalty and support.”
Stromboli has served pizza, salads and Italian dishes at the restaurant at 7023 Wisconsin Ave. since 1980.
