A hiker found a body Wednesday morning in a creek in a Silver Spring park and detectives are investigating the incident as a suspicious death, Montgomery County police said.

A resident was hiking in the woods around Long Branch-Arliss Neighborhood Park at about 11:20 a.m. when he noticed a dead man in Long Branch Stream and called 911, police said Thursday.

County police homicide investigators and Maryland National Capital Park police responded to the scene near 8800 Garland Ave., according to a police press release.

The body of the man, whom police called a “victim,” was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

This is the second body recently found in an area creek. A man’s body was recovered from Booze Creek Stream Valley Park in Bethesda on Aug. 10.

The Long Branch-Arliss Neighborhood Park is adjacent to Long Branch Local Park, where a nonfatal shooting that police investigated as possibly gang-related occurred in July.

Police ask anyone with information about the man found in the Long Branch park to call 240-773-5070.
