Police say North Bethesda jewelry thief left trail

Montgomery County police arrested 35-year-old Assaloun Luangsay after he allegedly stole more than $300,000 in jewelry from department stores in Wheaton and North Bethesda. In the North Bethesda burglary, he reportedly left a trail of jewelry behind him after the black garbage bag he used to hold his haul broke as he fled a Lord & Taylor store. [Washington Post]

MCPS enrollment expected to increase by 2,300 students

Enrollment is on the rise again at local public schools. MCPS estimates about 2,300 new students will join MCPS schools when the school year begins today, bringing the system’s total enrollment to 161,302. It will be the ninth year the system recorded an increase of more than 2,000 students. [Washington Post]

Purple Line opponents to ask court to halt construction on trail

The plaintiffs in the ongoing lawsuit over the light-rail line said over Labor Day weekend they’ll ask the court to issue a restraining order to prevent construction from happening on the Georgetown Branch Trail, which is scheduled to begin today. [WTOP]
