Filicori Zecchini opens in Park Potomac
Visitors to Park Potomac can now get a taste of Italian-style coffee. Filicori Zecchini opened with regular hours last week after a soft opening in July. The chain, which traces its beginnings to Bologna in 1919, now has several U.S. locations, including a few in New York City and one in Baltimore.
Filicori Zecchini specializes in a “softer and smoother” coffee roast, franchise owner Elhussien Ahmed said. Because the beans are roasted individually before blending, the coffee doesn’t taste bitter or burned, he said.
The coffee shop at 12430 Park Potomac Ave. sells four blends of coffee in addition to pastries and tea. It seats about 28 people inside and 15 more on the patio. It is open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday and 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Washington Post food writer praises Lina’s for eclectic menu and “boho” vibe

Lina’s Diner and Bar, which opened in downtown Silver Spring in May, seems to have found a fan in Washington Post food writer Tim Carman. After visiting the homey bar and restaurant, Carman commends owner Juancarlo Parkhurst for transforming the former Piratz Tavern space into a diner that keeps some of the former tenant’s eccentricity while brightening the atmosphere.
Carman goes on to call Lina’s menu “cool” and “eclectic,” with a randomness that “mirrors the diner experience, although in a more concentrated and elevated form.” He praises the steak frites, the cow’s milk burrata, chilaquiles and other menu items.
Though he remarks “a dish or two” could use some work, he admits the small imperfections only add to the diner’s charm. “Who wants a perfect diner?” he writes. “I want a diner with humanity.”
Jeff Black plans new cafe
The owners of Addie’s, which reopened Tuesday in Park Potomac, are not slowing down.
Jeff and Barbara Black are planning to open Black Coffee, an all-day coffee shop, in nine months to a year in the Palisades, Washingtonian reports. It will be a family-friendly, 65-seat venue with counter-service breakfast, as well as sandwiches and entrees for lunch and dinner.
The Black Restaurant Group operates several other businesses in the Washington, D.C., area, including Black’s in Bethesda.
