Montgomery County Agricultural Fair – ends Saturday night – Gaithersburg fairgrounds, 501 Perry Parkway

Thursday, Friday and Saturday are your last days to visit the Montgomery County fair before the rides are packed up and the animals go back to local farms. The fair runs from 10 a.m. to midnight each day. Thursday’s main event is a monster truck show that starts at 7:30 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, demolition derbies start at 7:30 p.m. Thursday is military appreciation day, so veterans and active duty military can enter for free. Tickets are $10 online or $12 at the gate. Carnival ride tickets cost extra. Children 11 and younger can enter for free. Onsite parking costs $10.

Clear the Shelters – Saturday – Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center, 7315 Muncaster Mill Road, Derwood

The county’s animal adoption center will waive its standard adoption fees for the third annual “Clear the Shelters” event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Residents can adopt dogs and other animals from the shelter, but are warned to expect “significant” wait times. The shelter will not do dog compatibility tests during the event. Owners are being told to keep their current dogs at home. If their current dogs are pet-sensitive, they suggest adopting on a different day. People who adopt an animal will still be responsible for a one-year license fee of $12.

 

Lego Batman Movie – Friday night – Veterans Plaza, Silver Spring

Downtown Silver Spring’s central plaza will become an outdoor movie theater Friday night for a free screening of The Lego Batman Movie. The movie featuring Lego figures pokes fun at director Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Batman trilogy. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are not needed to see it.

 

Pop That Dance Party – Friday night – The Fillmore Silver Spring

The show features music from the 2000s to present day from a variety of genres. Attendees can expect to hear music from Beyonce, DJ Khaled, Jay-Z, Drake and many other artists during the dance party, which kicks off at 8:30 p.m. Tickets range from $6 to $12.

 

Stokley Williams of Mint Condition – Saturday night – Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club

The R&B musician Stokley Williams—the drummer and singer from the ‘90s band Mint Condition—will perform at the Bethesda venue. In addition to his role with the band, Williams is a well known professional musician who has sang backup vocals for acts such as Prince and been a drummer for Janet Jackson. He’s also produced a number of Washington, D.C., rapper Wale’s tracks from the 2013 album The Gifted. The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $50 each.
