Update Thursday: Buredo is now opening this morning and offering a free sushi burrito to the first 300 customers.
Original story: Sushi burritos are making their entrance into Bethesda this week.
Buredo is coming to Wildwood Shopping Center. Co-owner Travis Elton said it would open by Friday.
“It’s a unique experience,” he said Friday of the burrito-sized sushi. “Bethesda currently doesn’t have anything like Buredo in the area, and Bethesda has been a location we’ve been wanting to be a part of for a long time now.”
It’s the first location outside Washington, D.C., for the chain, which has restaurants in Franklin Square and Dupont Circle and more planned in the District.
Bethesda’s Buredo will offer the same large-style sushi rolls that cost about $9 to $13, but it will also be introducing three new items: the Budd, a plantain-based roll with watermelon radish and peppers; the McGraw, with beef, kimchi slaw and garlic crunch; and the Nikkia, with charred salmon, salmon roe and tempura crunch.
Buredo has also recently changed its menu to allow every item to be ordered as a salad, Elton said.
After Buredo was initially scheduled to open in June, Elton said it set back the opening to redesign the interior.
The Bethesda restaurant has a new design from its other locations, one meant to better match Wildwood and the rest of the area. Elton said it is “less urban,” with stones instead of stainless steel, an LED-light feature on the ceiling and a mural on the wall.
Buredo seats about 14 inside, with more seating space outdoors. It’s moved into 10241 Old Georgetown Road—the former space of the Fraiche Cupcakery—joining Chopt and Fish Taco as another fast-casual eatery for Wildwood.
The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays.
