Silver Spring man identified as body found in Frederick County

Frederick County police identified a body found in a shallow grave in June as a 37-year-old man from Silver Spring. Victor Antonio Turcios-Valle had been missing since April 2, when he was last seen by his family. His body was found by a hiker near Gambrill Park Road in Frederick on June 29. Police identified him by tattoos that were still visible and then conducted a DNA test to confirm. Frederick County police are investigating his death as a homicide. [Frederick News-Post]

State’s attorney pushes for more resources to curtail gangs

The gangs MS-13 and Hit Squad are being blamed for homicides in Montgomery County, a growing problem that police and officials hope to curtail. The Washington Post found potential conflicts of interest among the experts hired to review applications for medical marijuana businesses. The Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission contracted 20 experts to review applications for licenses, which was meant to prevent bias. However, several experts had personal connections to marijuana businesses, including a woman married to a manager of a company she reviewed. Rescue crews save baby deer from hole near NIST

A baby deer fell into a hole dug for a construction project at the fence of the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg Friday.
