Judge denies bond to suspects in killing of Northwest High School students
A district court judge ordered that three men accused of killing two Northwest High School students in a shooting early this month be held without bond. Roger Garcia, 19, Edgar Garcia-Gaona, 24 and Jose Ovilson Canales-Yanez, 25, could face multiple life sentences if convicted of the killing of Shadi Adi Najjar, 17, and Artem Ziberov, 18, who were shot in Montgomery Village the night before their graduation. Judge John Moffett called the crime, which involved the firing of more than 30 bullets, a “brutal” and “deliberate” act. [WTOP]
Bethesda-based Lockheed Martin showcases new tech
Representatives from Lockheed Martin, a defense contractor based in Bethesda, are with Gov. Larry Hogan on a trade mission in Paris this week. The company brought out some of its new flight technology for the Paris Air Show, including a stealth fighter jet, a war-fighting drone and a hybrid airship. The week-long air show dates back to 1909 and is one of the biggest events for aerospace companies globally. [Baltimore Sun]
Peter Franchot to get a beer named after him
Peter Franchot, Maryland’s comptroller who has long opposed the Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control and advocated for privatization of alcohol sales, is getting recognized for his support of breweries. Monocacy Brewing Co., located in Frederick, announced it will name a beer after him. The brew, Saison du Franchot, will be released next week. Franchot visited the Montgomery County DLC headquarters on Friday. [Baltimore Business Journal]
