Montgomery County is home to at least 25 golf courses, including one club with early members such as John D. Rockefeller, Walter Chrysler and William Randolph Hearst, who paid $1,000 for lifetime memberships. That’s Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, host to major championships. Another local course, TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, will host Tiger Woods’ Quicken Loans National June 29 through July 2. Some of the area’s most exclusive clubs are right in our backyard, but there are also MCG public courses for students, amateurs and those who play footgolf, a sport in which players kick a soccer ball into a cup. Here’s a look at golf by the numbers.
