Maryland, D.C. attorney generals to announce lawsuit against President Trump
Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh is scheduled to hold a joint press conference at noon Monday in Washington, D.C., with D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine to detail the lawsuit they’re pursuing against President Donald Trump. The lawsuit claims Trump violated the Emoluments Clause in the Constitution by accepting payments involving his hotel, resort and other properties. [Baltimore Sun]
Change in Maryland law designed to protect cyclists in crosswalks
Starting Oct. 1, state law will change to give anyone on nonmotorized wheels, such as bicycles, scooters and skateboards, the right of way in crosswalks. The change comes after 19-year-old Frank Towers and 31-year-old Oscar Mauricio Gutierrez Osorio were both killed by vehicles while crossing the Matthew Henson Trail at Veirs Mill and Randolph Road in Silver Spring. Despite Trump, Maryland Republicans aim to take General Assembly seats
Republicans are looking to ride the coattails of popular Republican Gov. Larry Hogan to break up veto-proof majorities in the state Senate and House of Delegates in Annapolis. To do so they would need to take five seats in the Senate or seven in the House—already Hogan is stumping for some contenders, most recently Del. Christian Miele, who is looking to unseat Sen.
