Montgomery County delegate encouraging colleagues to wait to endorse Democratic gubernatorial candidates in 2018

Del. David Moon (D-Takoma Park) has launched an effort requesting Democrats in the state wait to endorse any gubernatorial candidates until after the state’s filing deadline on Feb. 27 as part of an effort to allow the candidates to define themselves on issues before the party coalesces around one candidate to run against Republican Gov. Larry Hogan. Moon said the plan is partly due to 2002 and 2014 elections in the state when Democrats lost the governor’s office after backing candidates who had served as lieutenant governor that failed to excite voters.
