California-based chain would take over the former Parva space

A California-based chain that brands itself as a “craft casual hot dog concept” selling hot dogs, sausages and burgers appears to be moving into the former Parva space in downtown Bethesda.

Dog Haus is applying to Montgomery County for a liquor license for the 7904 Woodmont Ave. space, according to a sign on the door of the building Friday. The sign indicated the store would be one of the chain’s “biergarten” locations, which a Los Angeles employee said has a wider selection of beer than standard Dog Haus restaurants.

Dog Haus serves hot dogs, sausages, burgers, sliders and desserts, according to its website. Menu items include the Downtown Dog—wrapped in smoked bacon, caramelized onions and pickled peppers—and Pig Lebowski, a Polish kielbasa with slaw and barbecue sauce.

The chain’s other biergarten locations serve about 10 beers on tap and a selection of bottles, in addition to wine and saki. They also have bar seating.

With more than 20 locations, the chain is centered around California and Colorado, but appears to be working on an eastward expansion, with planned stores in Texas and Tennessee. In October 2016, Dog Haus inked a $500 million franchising deal that paved the path for 300 new locations over seven years. The company has not announced any other East Coast locations.

Marketing representatives for Dog Haus could not be reached for comment Friday, but a website has been set up for the Bethesda location.

The space has been empty since the Parva Cocina & Tequila Bar vacated in January 2016. The restaurant served margaritas and Tex-Mex food, and some of its patrons drew the ire of neighbors for alleged drunken behavior.
