County Council meeting with departments as part of budget review process
On Monday, Montgomery County Council members will meet with leaders from the county cable department, libraries, fire department and Park Police as it evaluates departmental budget. The council over the next month will be meeting with department heads as it reviews County Executive Ike Leggett’s $5.44 billion fiscal 2018 budget proposal. The council is expected to reach a budget agreement May 18 and then formally approve it May 25.
On Tuesday, the council is scheduled to vote on three bills—one that would remove sugary drinks from county vending machines, a proposal to require owners of foreclosed properties to register them with the county and legislation to create a microlending program for small businesses.
Council members to host Wednesday town hall in Silver Spring
Council members are inviting the community to participate in a town hall meeting at 8 p.m. Wednesday during which the public can pose questions to the nine elected officials. The town hall will be held at the Long Branch Community Center, 8700 Piney Branch Road, Silver Spring.
Green Business Forum in Rockville
Residents and businesses looking for opportunities to improve the environment in Montgomery County are invited to the Green Business Forum hosted Thursday by the county’s Department of Environmental Protection. The event is part of a series of Earth Month activities the department is hosting during April. The forum runs from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, 51 Monroe St., Suite 1800, Rockville.
Mild, spring week expected
The National Weather Service predicts a very nice week in the Bethesda area. A high near 74 degrees is expected Monday with a chance of showers and a nighttime low around 50. Tuesday is expected to be sunny with a high near 70 and a low near 49. There’s a chance of showers Wednesday and Thursday with highs predicted between 70 and 80 degrees and nighttime lows around 60. The mild temperatures continue Friday with a sunny high near 70 degrees and low around 46 expected.
