Despite President Donald Trump promising to spend $1 billion on infrastructure improvements during his campaign, his proposed budget has left officials across the country wondering whether he’ll support transit projects—particularly in Maryland where Trump’s administration has given no indication about whether it will support the Purple Line, which was days away from securing $900 million in federal funds. Barkley says he didn’t know what was in controversial brewery bill
Del. Charles Barkley (D-Germantown), who serves as the alcohol subcommittee chair, said he and other legislators didn’t know what was in a bill that was approved by his committee and later the House of Delegates that would curtail some operations at craft breweries in the state. He said house leadership met with alcohol lobbyists in the state to alter the bill before it came before his committee. [Naptown Pint]
SHA urges drivers to be careful as crews fix potholes
The State Highway Administration is in the midst of an estimated $4 million effort to patch thousands of potholes on the state’s roads. As the work progresses, SHA administrator Gregory Slater asked that drivers be careful of crews: “SHA appreciates the public alerting us to the location of the potholes as well as using extra caution while driving near mobile work crews.” [Maryland SHA]
Burtonsville man indicted for production of child pornography
A federal grand jury indicted Kyle Stephen Thompson, 31, for allegedly producing videos of himself sexually abusing three young girls behind his Burtonsville home from May 2015 to January 2017. The federal indictment comes after Montgomery County police charged Thompson in March with multiple sex offenses. [U.S. Attorney’s Office]
