Rockville Pike Lane Closures Set for Early April

Construction work is part of project to install pedestrian underpass

March 27, 2017 2:07 p.m.

The right lane and shoulder on a northbound section of Rockville Pike will be closed for construction on off-peak hours from April 5 through 7, Montgomery County officials announced.

The roadwork will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. between Jones Bridge Road and South Wood Drive, near the Naval Support Activity Bethesda facility, according to a press release.

The closures will allow the county Department of Transportation to build a construction entrance for a pedestrian underpass project at the Medical Center Metro Station, a press release stated.

The underpass is part of the Multimodal Crossing Project, launched after a federal mandate that increased the number of people working at the NSAB campus by 45 percent and increased visits to about 1 million each year. The project includes construction of elevators to the station mezzanine and improving the intersection at Rockville Pike and Jones Bridge Road, according to the release.
