Montgomery County’s population continues to grow, although not quite as much as during the previous five years.
The county added about 7,600 residents in the year ending July 1, 2016, according to statistics released this week by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The new residents brought the county’s overall population estimate to 1,043,863—making the county the most populous jurisdiction in Maryland.
Its population growth, however, has slowed when compared to previous years. The census bureau estimated that from 2011 to 2015 the county added more than 10,000 residents per year, and about 8,400 in 2015.
There were about twice as many births as deaths reported in 2016 in the county—13,100 births to 6,275 deaths.
The county’s population growth outpaced everywhere else in the state over the previous year. Census figures show Howard County gained about 4,500 residents, Prince George’s added about 2,000, Anne Arundel County grew by about 4,500 and Baltimore County added about 1,800, while Baltimore City lost more than 6,700.
Overall, Maryland added about 21,500 people.
