Delaney, Raskin to host ‘Rally to Save Health Care’ Monday
Democratic Reps. John Delaney and Jamie Raskin are scheduled to join five members of the Montgomery County Council on Monday evening at Gaithersburg High School for a rally to oppose Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act. The event starts at 7:30 p.m.
Education officials to hold public forum Wednesday at Walter Johnson High School
Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Jack Smith, County Council Education Committee Chairman Craig Rice and Montgomery College President DeRionne Pollard are hosting the fourth of five education forums in the county on Wednesday at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda. The county education leaders plan to discuss their budget priorities. The forum runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
County Council planning committee continues discussion of Bethesda Downtown Sector Plan
On Monday afternoon, the committee is scheduled to examine a staging policy for the land use and zoning plan that will guide development in downtown Bethesda for the next two decades. A staging policy would limit development based on certain factors, such as the percentage of people who travel into Bethesda without vehicles or possibly be tied to future use of the light-rail Purple Line. The committee’s discussion starts at 2 p.m.
Planning Board to examine county’s outdoor restaurant seating guidelines
The county Planning Board will meet with members of the county’s Department of Permitting Services (DPS) Thursday to discuss regulations for outdoor seating at restaurants. DPS officials met with members of the public and restaurant owners to discuss constraints of the county policy and have created guidelines to help businesses set up outdoor seating in the public right of way. Permitting staff are scheduled to meet with the board to receive feedback on the guidelines. The board meets at 9 a.m. and the outdoor seating guidelines are the eighth item on the board’s agenda.
Warmer temperatures expected this week
The Bethesda area likely won’t see highs in the 70s, but it will be warmer than last week, according to the National Weather Service. Monday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high around 55 degrees with possible showers tonight. Patchy fog is predicted Tuesday with a high near 61 and a nighttime low around 37 degrees. Wednesday and Thursday are both expected to be sunny and clear with highs around 45 degrees and nighttime lows dropping to around 30. A partly sunny high around 56 degrees is predicted for Friday.
