Montgomery County detectives are working with officers from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to investigate reports that a missing Bethesda man might have been in that area, according to county police.
Hattiesburg police received information that John Patrick Donohoe, 36, could be in the area near hotels along U.S. 49 North or in a homeless camp, according to a Hattiesburg American report. Hattiesburg officers contacted the Montgomery County Department of Police and both departments are investigating, county police spokesman officer Rick Goodale said Thursday afternoon.
No further information was available, he said.
Donohoe was last seen around 10:30 a.m. Dec. 13 when he left a family member’s Bethesda residence in a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox with the Maryland license plate 2AK8853, according to police. The day before, Donohoe had been released from Suburban Hospital in Bethesda.
Donohoe is the son of Bob Donohoe, chairman and CEO of The Donohoe Cos., a real estate development company based in Bethesda. In February, the family announced a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to Donohoe’s whereabouts.
After he went missing, an Upper Marlboro woman, Chernor Sheriff, used Donohoe’s credit card number on Dec. 22 and 23, and police charged her with four counts of credit card fraud. Sheriff, 25 and her boyfriend Victor Sesay, 37, denied any involvement in Donohoe’s disappearance.
Police later determined Sheriff and Sesay likely bought or obtained Donohoe’s credit card number and did not have his actual credit card. Officials dropped charges against Sheriff and said they do not believe she or Sesay have any connection to Donohoe’s disappearance.
