Silver Spring baby delivered during snowstorm
Firefighters helped a mother in an apartment in the 1500 block of East West Highway give birth in her home Tuesday evening as the first significant snowstorm of the year hit the region. The mother and baby were fine after the birth and then transported to a local hospital. [Washington Post]
Madaleno among those ordered to give depositions in Maryland redistricting case
Montgomery County state Senator Rich Madaleno is among five state legislators who have been ordered to answer questions about their role in the 2011 redrawing of the state’s congressional districts. The redrawing is the subject of a federal lawsuit that claims the gerrymandered districts were unfair to Republican candidates—in particular the sixth congressional district formerly held by Republican Roscoe Bartlett that Democrat John Delaney won in 2012. O’Malley presidential aspirations not done yet
After a rough 2016 primary campaign, former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley appears to be examining a second presidential run in 2020. A political action committee affiliated with O’Malley commissioned a poll to survey Democratic residents in Iowa that found about 18 percent of caucus-goers would support him in the presidential race against of field of eight other candidates such as New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro. [Politico]
