Schools could remain open for Presidents’ Day, Easter

The Maryland General Assembly is considering a bill this year that would allow school systems to stay open on Presidents’ Day and Easter Monday. The bill would provide school boards with more flexibility to comply with Gov. Larry Hogan’s executive order that calls for schools to start summer break June 15 and open after Labor Day. Montgomery County police officer’s cruiser rear-ended

Officer Matthew Runkles suffered nonlife-threatening injuries after his cruiser was rear-ended by an alleged drunken driver at the scene of a collision in the Colesville area. The officer had stopped behind a disabled vehicle on Norbeck Road around 6:30 p.m. Saturday when his vehicle was struck by a 1995 Mercedes Benz S500 driven by Morris Moody, 65, of Silver Spring. Moody later registered a .17 on a breath-alcohol test, more than twice the .08 legal limit. [Montgomery County police]

State law change for Guinness could allow breweries to serve more beer

Guinness is seeking a state law change to serve up to 5,000 barrels of beer per year at the new brewery it’s building in Arbutus, significantly more than the current 500-barrel serving limit for other breweries in the state. To compete, other breweries are asking that the serving limit at their breweries be increased as well, although alcohol retail store owners, which say the change could negatively impact their stores, are opposing the change. 2-year-old struck in Takoma Park

A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition at a local hospital after he was struck by a vehicle in a parking lot in Takoma Park on Saturday afternoon. The collision happened in the 8200 block of Roanoke Avenue. [NBC4]
