Montgomery County police are asking for help tracking down those responsible for spray-painting words and lewd images at Walter Johnson and Winston Churchill high schools.

The damage to the athletic stadiums at both schools happened between Jan. 27 and 31, and investigators believe it is related to a sports rivalry between students, according to a police department press release.

At Churchill in Potomac, school employees discovered the acronym “WJ,” the word “cats,” profanity and drawings of male genitalia on the stadium, scoreboard, a softball dugout, equipment sheds and nearby signs and banners. At Walter Johnson in Bethesda, the concession stand was painted with words like “bra,” “wj sweet,” “church” and “spanx.” The graffiti also included pictures of male genitalia.

Montgomery County police released photos of graffiti at Walter Johnson and Churchill high schools.

Last week, the principals of the two schools sent parents a joint letter condemning the acts.

“This is not typical ‘kids will be kids’ behavior. Each incident has been deliberate and destructive,” Walter Johnson Principal Jennifer Baker and Churchill Principal Joan Benz wrote.
