Federal labor leaders criticized President Donald Trump’s decision to freeze government hiring Monday, saying it would disrupt government programs and services. A hiring freeze was included in the Trump campaign’s “Contract with the American Voter.” It was the second of six measures “to clean up the corruption and special interest collusion in Washington, D.C.,” and part of his “100-day action plan to Make America Great Again,” according to a report in The Washington Post.[Washington Post]
Cardin announces opposition to Trump’s secretary of state pick
U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Monday he would oppose President Donald Trump's secretary of state nominee. Cardin had said previously he was "deeply troubled" by Rex Tillerson's appointment, but he did not signal whether he would oppose or support his confirmation.
