Plus: Inauguration event at Denizens; Owen's Ordinary to celebrate 'FeBREWary'

Cesco Osteria to launch new Sunday salon series

The Bethesda Italian restaurant on Woodmont Avenue will begin a new monthly live music and conversation series later this month with an event ingfeaturing L.M. Elliott,author of Da Vinci’s Tiger. The novel focuses on the life of Ginevra de’ Benci, an early painting subject of Leonardo da Vinci and a well-known woman in Florence during the RRenaissance. Elliott is scheduled to discuss da Vinci’s painting as well as the culture of RRenaissance Florence during the event that runs from 5 to 7 p.m.Jan. 29. The restaurant will offer drinks and stuzzichini (little bites) before the discussion. Tickets to the event are $25. TThe restaurant plans to host additional salons focusing on the culture and cuisine of Italy throughout the year.

Denizens Brewing Co. hosting inauguration event

The event dubbed “Inaugural Idiocracy” will take place on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, at the Silver Spring brewery. In the tap room downstairs, the brewery will show the inauguration coverage, while in the upstairs space the brewery will screen the 2006 cult classic Idiocracy, a dystopian Mike Judge film set 500 years in the future when U.S. culture has morphed into rampant advertising, commercialism and anti-intellectualism. At 8 p.m. in the lower taproom DJ Blaqsquerade will be spinning dance music. The brewery also plans to release a special inauguration-themed beer for the party.

Owen’s Ordinary to host FeBREWary

The new beer-focused restaurant at Pike & Rose in North Bethesda is celebrating FeBREWary next month with a series of beer-related events. The restaurant will host a “MoCo Beerstravaganza” on Feb. 8 that features more than 20 beers brewed in the county from 7 Locks Brewing, Denizens Brewing Co., Brookeville Beer Farm and Waredaca Brewing Co. On Feb. 23, RAR Brewing will be featured in a four-course beer dinner with five beer pairings that costs $50 per person. And on Feb. 28, the restaurant plans (with “the hopeful return of some warmer weather”) a patio kick-off party during which it will offer a variety of strong ales  and beer specials.
