Leadership Montgomery, the nonprofit that has provided training to more than 2,000 local leaders and business people, announced this week it has merged with another nonprofit, the Corporate Volunteer Council of Montgomery County, creating a single entity worth about $1.25 million.
Leadership Montgomery provides education and training to about 150 county business and political leaders each year. CVC helps about 65 businesses partner with nonprofits, and creates volunteer programs within the businesses.
By joining with CVC, Leadership Montgomery graduates will have expanded access to volunteer service opportunities, C. Marie Taylor, the organization’s president and CEO, said Thursday. By joining with Leadership Montgomery, CVC gains access to the nonprofit’s administrative staff, allowing the organization to focus on its programs, said Sarah Burnett, formerly CVC’s executive director, and now director of corporate engagement for Leadership Montgomery.
Taylor said CVC also can have a greater effect through corporate volunteerism.
“It’s a mission alignment that makes sense,” Burnett said. “We hope to be a model for other organizations who would be looking for new ways to bring value to our community.”
Burnett said the combined organizations technically represent a “program transfer” or a “program expansion,” as opposed to a merger.
To mark the merger, Leadership Montgomery is planning a service event to benefit Manna Food Center from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Feb. 16 at Sodexo headquarters in Gaithersburg.
