Menorah Built of 386 Bagels Towers Over Shoppers on Bethesda Row

Chabad of Bethesda celebrates Hanukkah with outdoor menorah lighting, food, music

December 29, 2016 5:31 p.m.

Bethesda Row shoppers on Thursday evening gathered around to watch volunteers build a 10-foot-tall menorah out of bagels.

This is the eighth year that the Chabad of Bethesda has created a whimsical menorah on Bethesda streets as a way to celebrate Hanukkah. This year’s version was constructed from 386 bagels provided by Goldberg’s New York Bagels. The menorah’s builders used a metal frame to support the stacks of bagels, which will be eaten after Thursday’s event, according to Rabbi Sender Geisinsky.

In addition to the menorah lighting, this year’s Hanukkah celebration is featuring food and music.
