Walter Reed vets receiving ‘LUKE’ arm
Military amputees are receiving the first production versions of upper-limb prostheses developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. The first two advanced “LUKE” arms were delivered to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda. LUKE stands for “life under kinetic evolution,” but is also a reference to the limb that Luke Skywalker wore in the Star Wars movies. [Defense.gov]
Wisconsin Avenue shops get loan
Natixis, a Paris- and Boston-based investment management firm, has supplied a $26.5 million, floating-rate loan for Shops of Wisconsin, a 71,748-square-foot neighborhood shopping center in Bethesda. Montgomery County police investigating scam
The Montgomery County Police Department says a scam targeted a former county government employee. The former employee received a letter with county letterhead stating that the county government would cease mailing pay slips to its employees. Police determined that the information and instructions provided in the letter were not part of a legitimate county government service. [Mongomery County police]

Rockville’s recycling program can help households cut down on refuse and have a greener holiday. The city collects holiday trees as part of its regular recycling collection and takes them to the Montgomery County Recycling Center, where they become mulch.
