Former Indianapolis and Chevy Chase mayor dies
William Hudnut is credited with beginning the revitalization of downtown Indianapolis as mayor over a 16-year period in the 1970s and '80s. Hudnut later moved to Maryland and served as mayor of Chevy Chase from 2004 to 2006 after serving on the Town Council. He died Sunday at a hospice community in Rockville at age 84. [Washington Post]
Survey finds more people would walk in Pike District if it were safer
The survey of 100 residents who live in the North Bethesda and White Flint area found that 70 percent of respondents said they would walk more in the area around Rockville Pike if they felt it were safer to do so. About 70 percent also said driver inattention is the most dangerous threat to pedestrians and half said there weren’t crosswalks where they want to walk. New boutique opens in Potomac
Sonoran Rose, a woman’s clothing store owned by Bethesda resident Isabel Chiotti and her daughters Alessandra and Cristina, opened last month at 12211 River Road in Potomac. The store sells soaps, towels, bags, scarves and other accessories in a small bungalow space. [Connection Newspapers]
Silver Spring documentary group moving
Docs in Progress is moving its headquarters from 8700 First Ave. to 801 Wayne Ave. in downtown Silver Spring after the First Avenue property was sold. The group launched a fundraising campaign to help pay for $15,000 in unanticipated expenses that arose due to the move. [Source of the Spring]
