Timpano Italian Chophouse announced this month it is closing in January, as part of Federal Realty Investment Trust’s planned changes at the Montrose Crossing Shopping Center in Rockville.

The Rockville-based developer announced in May that it wanted to demolish the restaurant and replace it with a more modern structure that would house a mix of fast-casual eateries.

Federal Realty will replace the 10,700-square-foot Timpano building with a 19,000-square-foot structure with outdoor seating. The Montgomery County Planning Board approved the changes in October.
