Hip hop dancers will share the stage with a DJ and electronic violinist to bring the classic Nutcracker Christmas story and Tchaikovsky’s score to life in modern-day New York City. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets range from $32 to $58.

Jazz singer and former America’s Got Talent winner Landau Murphy Jr. returns Friday to the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club to perform a holiday concert. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $35 to $45.

Akhmedova Ballet Academy’s winter show features local dancers ranging in age from 11 to 19 performing a two-act version of The Nutcracker. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students or seniors.
Holiday book fair and birthday celebration – Saturday afternoon – The Writer’s Center, 4508 Walsh St., Bethesda
Books, literary journals and other items will be on sale and local publishers and editors will be on hand to provide advice for gifts at this event that runs from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at The Writer’s Center. A members-only party to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the center will begin at 5 p.m.
Lauryn Hill – Sunday night – The Fillmore Silver Spring

Rapper and songwriter Lauryn Hill brings her MLH Caravan Tour to Silver Spring Sunday for a performance that starts at 7:30 p.m. A former member of the Fugees, Hill is known for hits in the 1990s such as “Lost Ones” and “Doo Wop (That Thing).” Tickets are $77 each.

The more than 90-member chorus will perform a selection of holiday music such as the “Hallejah Chorus,” “Jingle Bells” and “Hanukkah, the Season of Light” at this winter concert that starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Rockville theater. The event is free, but donations are welcome.
