Trader Joe’s announced Thursday it will open a new 13,000-square-foot grocery store in Rockville.

The announcement confirms a May story in the Washington Business Journal that first reported the grocery store was coming to Travilah Square Shopping Center.

The company said the store will offer its signature lineup of Trader Joe’s-branded grocery items, fresh produce, meats and bakery items. The store is expected to open in late 2017 or early 2018.

The shopping center is owned by Finmarc Management and includes other tenants such as Burger King, 7-Eleven, Travilah Beer & Wine and Ledo Pizza. The new grocery store will be about a half mile away from The Universities at Shady Grove and Shady Grove Medical Center.

Trader Joe’s already has a Rockville location at Federal Plaza on Rockville Pike, which is about 7 miles south from the new store.
