The 50,000-square-foot grocery store is at corner of Battery Lane and Woodmont Avenue

August 10, 2016 7:00 a.m.

The long-anticipated Harris Teeter grocery store in downtown Bethesda’s newest apartment building will officially open Aug. 24, according to the North Carolina-based company.

Harris Teeter will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony starting at 8 a.m. on the day of the opening. The store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The store’s entrance is near the intersection of Battery Lane and Woodmont Avenue. The 50,000-square-foot space takes up part of the first floor and much of the basement level of the Flats 8300 building, the 359-unit project from developer StonebridgeCarras where move-ins have started.

StonebridgeCarras and project partner Walton Street Capital sold the building in June to Invesco Real Estate for a reported price of about $207 million. It’s one of the highest prices for an apartment or condominium building sale this year in suburban Maryland, according to the Washington Business Journal.

Construction on the building began in 2013.

According to a press release, the Harris Teeter will have all the features and departments that are common in the grocery chain’s locations. Among them will be a self-serve olive bar, hot foods bar, made-to-order sandwich program, chef-prepared foods to go, fresh-made pizza, full-service butchers market, full-service “Fishermans Market,” custom floral arrangement service, Red Box DVD rental kiosk, Starbucks and sit-down eating area.

The store will have eight checkout aisles and four “express” checkout aisles.

The store’s pharmacy will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
