A group of local library supporters that operated a popular used bookstore in the basement of the county’s Wheaton branch will reopen in the former Silver Spring Library.
The Friends of the Library Montgomery County (FOLMC) announced Friday the Wheaton Bookstore will open in the interim location June 20 with Monday-Thursday hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday hours of noon to 6 p.m.
The bookstore’s collection also includes educational games and multimedia recordings at reduced prices. FOLMC has long donated proceeds from the bookstore to Montgomery County Public Libraries and accepts gently used donations.
The interim location at the former Silver Spring Library will remain open until a new used bookstore space is built into the under-construction Wheaton Library and Recreation Center, a project expected to open in summer 2018.
Montgomery County Public Libraries moved the Silver Spring branch to its new Fenton Street location last June. The former Silver Spring Library location, on the northern edge of the central business district and next to Ellsworth Urban Park, has sat vacant since.
County officials plan to partner with a developer in a project that could bring a new recreation center and affordable senior housing to the site. The project isn’t expected to begin until after the new Wheaton Library opens.
FOLMC operates a second used bookstore in Rockville in a recently expanded space in the Randolph Hills Shopping Center at 4886 Boiling Brook Parkway.
