LGBTQ and Muslim community leaders gather for solidarity event

After a Muslim man killed at least 50 people in a gay club Sunday morning in Orlando, Florida, local Muslim and LGBTQ leaders will gather Monday night in Montgomery Village to condemn the attack.

Local political activist Hamza Khan and District 18 state Sen. Richard Madaleno are expected to be at the 7 p.m. event at the headquarters of the nonprofit World Organization for Resource Development and Education in Suite 205, 19650 Club House Road.

White Flint Downtown Advisory Committee monthly meeting

The county-sponsored group of residents, developers and business leaders will hold its regular monthly meeting from 8 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in the Cabin John Board Room of the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, 5701 Marinelli Road, North Bethesda.

Meetings are open to the public.

Board of Education all-day meeting to include final adoption of next school year’s budget

The county Board of Education will meet Tuesday at its 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville, headquarters in an all-day session set to include final adoption of a reworked operating budget for the next school year and the award of construction contracts for an addition at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School.

County Council returns to action

The council on Tuesday will hold its first full session since late May and is expected to appoint one of five finalists to a soon-to-open seat on the county Planning Board.

Commissioner Amy Presley’s second term was set to run out Tuesday, but will be extended until July 21, according to council documents, presumably so Presley can remain until the five-member board votes on the ongoing Bethesda Downtown Plan.

The council meeting will start at 11:30 a.m. in the Council Office Building, 100 Maryland Ave., Rockville.

Developer to detail plans for Steamers site

The developer behind a proposal to raze the former Steamers Seafood House in Woodmont Triangle and develop the land as a 110-foot-tall, 58-unit apartment building will host  a public meeting on its plans Wednesday starting at 7 p.m. at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda. Planning Board rules require the meeting be held before the developer submits its sketch plan application.

Commercial real estate firm Marcus & Millichap announced Friday it had facilitated the sale of the property to developer Novo Properties for $4.65 million despite the former Steamers building being condemned because of structural damage from January’s heavy snow.

Third Great MoCo Bicycle Summit set for Rockville

The third edition of the event, hosted by County Council member Hans Riemer, will include a family-friendly group bike ride, update on bike lane projects in the county and an update on the Planning Department’s Bicycle Master Plan for future bike projects.

The group bike ride is set for 9 to 10 a.m. and the program will run from 10 a.m. to noon in the 3rd Floor Hearing Room of the Council Office Building, 100 Maryland Ave., Rockville.
