The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Thursday night welcomed more than 800 business and government leaders to its 57th Annual Dinner, held at the Bethesda North Marriott and County Conference Center to inaugurate the 2016-2017 board of directors and honored the leaders who strengthen our business environment.
MCCC’s newly elected board of directors were introduced and took the oath of office, pledging to continue to advance the MCCC’s mission.
Amid confetti and Motown-themed dancers, the MCCC Immediate Past Chair Jerry Shapiro passed the torch to the new Chair Jim Young, vice president, corporate facilities, services and real estate, Marriott International, Inc.
Five awards were given to leaders for their significant contributions to building a strong business environment in Montgomery County. They are:
Visionary of the Year Award: Bell Nursery, accepted by Gary Mangum, CEO and president
Public Sector Partner of the Year Award: National Institutes of Health (NIH), accepted by Dr. Lawrence Tabak, principal deputy director at NIH
Legislator of the Year Award: Montgomery County Council President Nancy Floreen
Business Advocate of the Year Award: Lawrence Duncan, III, vice president, federal and state government relations and PAC Affairs, Lockheed Martin
Chairman’s Award Award: Leslie Ford Weber, director, campus and government and community affairs, Montgomery County, Johns Hopkins
