Surveillance camera video of a June 2 bank robbery in Rockville shows the suspect’s fake beard falling off as he passed a note to a bank teller demanding money and implying he had an explosive device.

County police on Tuesday released the video and other surveillance camera images from the robbery, including a shot of the suspect’s right arm tattoo, in hopes of identifying him.

Police said the robbery happened at about 11:55 a.m. at the SunTrust Bank inside the Safeway grocery store at 14939 Shady Grove Road in the Fallsgrove Village Center.

The suspect approached a teller and passed a note saying he had the explosive device and would detonate it if he didn’t receive money, police said. As he did so, his beard began to slip off revealing his face and a mustache. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the bank.

While he tried to cover most of his face with a hood, large sunglasses and the malfunctioning fake beard, police have focused on a tattoo visible on his right forearm. In a press release Tuesday, police provided a close-up image of the tattoo.

Police asked anyone with information about the suspect’s identity to call the department’s Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070. Tipsters can remain anonymous and Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest or indictment of the suspect.
