Updated Friday – Rain expected this weekend will delay work on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway in Montgomery County until June 10.
The State Highway Administration (SHA) announced Wednesday it will close two lanes on the outer loop of I-495 from Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring to Connecticut Avenue in Bethesda in order to accommodate emergency repair work on the bridge over Jones Mill Road starting Friday at 9 p.m. But on Friday morning, the SHA announced the work has been postponed until next weekend because expected inclement weather.
SHA said in a press release the roadway on the bridge is “in poor condition and needs repairs.” Crews will be removing the top layer of concrete, repairing joints and then resurfacing the bridge. The work is expected to begin at 9 p.m. June 10 and end no later than 5 a.m. Monday, June 13.
As the work takes place, crews are expected to keep two of the four lanes on the outer loop open when they close the other two. SHA said “drivers should plan ahead and expect delays.”
