Gaithersburg Book Festival – Saturday – Gaithersburg City Hall
Authors including NPR’s Diane Rehm, ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian and sports writer John Feinstein are scheduled to participate in the annual Gaithersburg Book Festival this Saturday. Events featuring national and local writers will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.—a full schedule is available on the festival’s website. In addition to book signings and writer talks, the festival will include live music, writing workshops and food. The festival takes place at Gaithersburg City Hall, 31 S. Summit Ave., and admission is free.
MoCo Strawberry Festival & Spring Fair – Friday evening and Saturday – Briggs Chaney Park ‘n Ride, 3300 Briggs Chaney Road, Burtonsville
The two-day festival begins with a beer, wine and bourbon tasting Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. A number of food trucks will also be on hand serving Jamaican cuisine and barbecue alongside the drink vendors. During the day Saturday, local farms, artists and other vendors will be selling items ranging from jewelry and books to fresh vegetables and kettle corn. Live music acts will play the festival stage from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Jailbreak Craft Brewery beer garden will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Poolesville Spring Fest – Saturday afternoon – Whalen Commons, Poolesville
Food trucks such as Corned Beef King and Smokin’ Rays as well as clothing, jewelry and toy vendors are scheduled to participate in Poolesville’s annual Spring Fest. The event also includes live entertainment by blues bands Hard Swimmin’ Fish and Black Betty & The Moonshine Society. Spring Fest takes place from 2 to 7 p.m. at Whalen Commons, 19701 Fisher Ave., Poolesville.
The Vi-Kings – Saturday night – Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club
Bethesda-based band the Vi-Kings will headline their fourth appearance at the local jazz club this weekend. The band covers songs from 1960s bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Kinks. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $20.
Baltimore Symphony Orchestra: The Planets – Saturday night – The Music Center at Strathmore, North Bethesda
The BSO will be joined by the Baltimore Choral Arts Society Women’s Chorus to perform Tan Dun’s Water Concerto and Holst’s The Planets Saturday night. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $35-$99.
The Eric Felten Septet – Friday night – AMP by Strathmore, North Bethesda
Eric Felten brings his seven-piece swing band to Pike & Rose Friday where they’ll perform classics by Frank Sinatra, Nat “King” Cole, Duke Ellington and Glenn Miller. The show starts at 8 p.m., but those who arrive early can participate in a swing dancing class from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. Tickets to the show are $30-$40.
