Kensington Mayor Peter Fosselman on Monday announced he won’t run for another two-year term as the town’s mayor in next month’s election.
Fosselman, who is also Montgomery County’s planning coordinator for the proposed White Oak Science Gateway, has been a significant figure in state Democratic circles.
From 2011 to 2015, he was the deputy secretary of state, serving mostly under Gov. Martin O’Malley. He was first elected as the town’s mayor in 2006 and played a big role in the 2012 Kensington Sector Plan, a new set of land use and zoning guidelines that added mixed-use zones with the expectation of creating a village center around Kensington’s MARC station.
In a press release, Fosselman said “he has encouraged” Kensington Council member Tracey Furman to run for mayor in the June election. The town’s council includes the mayor and four council members. He also wrote a thank you letter to the town:
