The inside of the new bar and restaurant Quincy’s in Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle may still look like a construction zone, but the owners said Tuesday they’re on track to open later this month.
The rectangular black bar, built by co-owner Sam White, was nearly complete, the restaurant’s 19 TVs were installed along with the custom-built brick pizza oven. But no tables were in place and finishing touches were in progress—White said completing the interior would take about two weeks.
He said the owners plan to add a rooftop patio, but that project will wait until after the restaurant opens. The bar will have 16 beers on tap and there are plans to offer live music.
The Del Ray Avenue restaurant will be the third Quincy’s in the county, with other locations in Gaithersburg and North Bethesda. A fourth location in Damascus is expected to open this summer. The Bethesda location is the former spot of Hard Times Café, which closed last May.
Co-owner Marty Magill said they’ve partnered with chef Hector Playuk to oversee the kitchen at the Bethesda location. Playuk worked as a corporate chef for NMS Healthcare for the previous five years and before that operated Café Ettore, an Italian restaurant, in the Palisades in Washington, D.C.
Playuk and a fourth partner, Arnie Fainam, round out the ownership team of the Bethesda Quincy’s.
The American tavern menu will be similar to what’s offered at the other Quincy’s locations, although the beer and wine list will be more extensive, the partners said.
Construction progress has been delayed by permitting problems and the slow delivery of materials and services such as DirecTV—the restaurant originally planned to open in November—but White said those issues have been resolved. Once open, he hopes Quincy’s will become a neighborhood bar where the community can gather.
“We like to think of ourselves as more than a sports bar,” White said. “We’re the kind of place where a lawyer in a suit can sit next to a guy who just finished digging a hole and no one feels uncomfortable.”
