Montgomery County GreenFest – Saturday – Takoma Park Community Center, 7500 Maple Ave.
Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett and state Sen. Jamie Raskin will be among the local leaders welcoming the public to the second annual Montgomery County GreenFest Saturday. The event aims to educate local residents on how to reduce their carbon footprint with presentations on beekeeping, backyard composting and organic lawn care. Dozens of other environment-related events are scheduled during the free festival that runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
NOFX – Saturday night – The Fillmore Silver Spring
Los Angeles rock band NOFX makes a stop in Silver Spring this Saturday night. The band that’s been touring since 1983 is one of the most successful independent bands of all time and has become a mainstay of the punk rock scene. Tickets are $25 and the show starts at 8 p.m.
Raptor Festival – Sunday afternoon – Meadowside Nature Center, Rockville
Bird of prey experts will be showing off a variety of raptors including owls, eagles and hawks at this free event from noon to 4 p.m. at the Derwood nature center located at 5100 Meadowside Lane in Rockville. The event will also include face painting, live music, crafts and children’s games.
Baltimore Symphony Orchestra: Tchaikovsky & Prokofiev – Saturday night – The Music Center at Strathmore, North Bethesda
The orchestra will play the World War II-era Symphony No. 5 by Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky’s cello showpiece Variation on a Rococo Theme Saturday night at Strathmore. Andrey Boreyko conducts and Dariusz Skoraczewski plays cello in the show that starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 – $99.
Chante Moore – Friday night – Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club
R&B singer Chante Moore, who has collaborated with R. Kelly and Boyz II Men, takes the stage at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 – $65.
Indonesian Cultural Festival – Sunday – Veterans Plaza, Silver Spring
Learn about Indonesian culture this Sunday at this free event featuring the Southeast Asian nation’s music, dance and food. The event takes place from 12:30 to 5 p.m. and includes a Tumpeng decorating competition. A Tumpeng is a traditional Indonesian dish consisting of a cone-shaped rice mound served with vegetables, tofu, tempeh and meat. Indonesian vendors will also be on hand selling artistic goods and clothing.
