RW Restaurant Group Rebranding River Falls Tavern
The owners of River Falls Tavern in Potomac are changing the restaurant’s name to Lock72, Kitchen & Bar.
Frank Shull, an owner of RW Restaurant Group, said they changed the name so that it’s clear that there are new owners. RW took over River Falls last year from John Grolig..
“Our ownership, management and consistency of food and service will all remain exactly as they are, if not better,” Shull said in a statement. “This small but meaningful name change will give us greater flexibility and we hope, help us build stronger connections with our existing and new customers.”
The name Lock72 was taken from one of the locks on the C&O Canal, which are numbered 1 – 75. The locks were used to help barges make their way along the canal, which runs from Georgetown to Cumberland, Maryland.
The American restaurant also plans to add new dishes to its menu as part of the rebranding—including co-owner Robert Wiedmaier’s lobster risotto and Colorado rack of lamb. RW Restaurant Group acquired River Falls during a busy period for the company—it was also in the process of opening Villain & Saint and Urban Heights in Bethesda at the time. Urban Heights closed last year and then reopened this year as the new location of Tommy Joe’s. Shull said the rebranding is being done now as the restaurant group settles down after the busy period.
Jackie’s officially closes in Silver Spring
Jackie’s Restaurant in Silver Spring and its sister bar Sidebar wrapped up a 12-year run on Georgia Avenue Wednesday night with a buffet dinner service and closing party. The owner, Jackie Greenbaum, closed the modern American restaurant, which was her first, as she prepares to open a new Italian restaurant on 14th Street in Washington, D.C. this summer. Jackie’s was a longtime favorite for regulars and local residents. Last week, Greenbaum invited her former staff back and helmed the host stand during a special Tuesday night dinner service that doubled as a nostalgic goodbye for the restaurant. Most of the staff and the chef at Jackie’s will be moving to Greenbaum’s new restaurant in D.C.

Greek restaurant Vasili's Mediterranean Grill is in the midst of renovating its new restaurant space at 705 Center Point Way in Kentlands Market Square as it prepares to move from its longtime Main Street location. The Hristopoulous family, which owns the restaurant, told the Lakelands Leader they traveled to New York City to research the latest dining trends to gather inspiration for the new space. The new restaurant will include floor to ceiling windows, a wood-burning oven and an outside patio with a built-in fire pit, according to the report. The family hopes to open at the new location this summer, but in the meantime its Main Street restaurant remains open.
