Urban Land Institute to provide recommendations on Pike District branding
The Urban Land Institute, an urban planning nonprofit, will join the White Flint Downtown Advisory Committee at Strathmore Wednesday to discuss how to brand the developing area around the White Flint Metro station as the Pike District. The name Pike District was chosen by a group of developers, businesses and residents in 2014, but isn’t widely used by locals yet. The panel Wednesday will propose a number of recommendations including installing signs and other branding elements with the Pike District logo to give the name a “concrete presence on the ground,” according to a news release. The event is scheduled for 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Comcast Circles Lounge at the North Bethesda music venue.
Planning board to review Chevy Chase townhouse proposal
The Montgomery County Planning Board Thursday is scheduled to review and possibly approve a proposal to allow 16 townhouses to be built at the current site of four single-family homes at the intersection of Glenmoor Drive and Kensington Parkway in Chevy Chase. The site is just north of the Capital Beltway in a section of North Chevy Chase sandwiched between the highway and Rock Creek. In July, the County Council rezoned the property from low-density residential to a greater density to enable the development to move forward. The 16 units would be built in three buildings. The planning department’s staff recommended approving the project. The Virginia real estate company Nova Habitat is pursuing the redevelopment.
