Drunken driving interlock case highlights need for reform, advocates say
Kelly Loos previously pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular manslaughter after driving drunk in Bethesda and striking a vehicle from behind in 2009, killing two men. Loos was later released on probation, but required to use an ignition interlock device. After registering a high blood alcohol level after blowing into the device before starting her vehicle, she’s back in court this week, and advocates for greater use of the devices say her case highlights the need to expand their use. State Highway Administration says its response to snow Jan. 20 affected by sudden forecast change
The State Highway Administration said it did not pre-treat roads in the state before a squall hit on the evening of Jan. 20, adding hours to evening commutes, because weather forecasts changed too suddenly to deploy salt trucks, which “requires at least a day’s notice.” [SHA via Scribd]
