The man found shot at the Rockville campus of Montgomery College Tuesday had been involved in a fight with his brother that led to his shooting, Rockville police announced Wednesday.

Police said they arrested James Joseph Frederick, 21, of the 100 block of Moore Drive in Rockville, Tuesday without incident and charged him with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and using a firearm in a violent crime. Police identified Frederick as the brother of the victim, who suffered a nonlife threatening single gunshot wound to his leg. The shooting happened during a fight between the siblings Tuesday morning, according to police. Police did not identify the brother who was shot.

Police said the victim was not forthcoming with information about the shooting, but was taken to a local hospital, treated and released.

Police said the man who was shot fled the scene seeking assistance, jumped into the Hungerford Drive roadway (Route 355) at Mannakee Street and flagged down a motorist around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. The man told the motorist he had been shot, and the driver called 911 and brought the wounded man to the college campus because the driver believed it would be a safer location. Police found the wounded man in a vehicle on the campus parking lot.
