Montgomery County Council announces its support for bills that would toughen penalties for drunken driving, serving alcohol to minors

The County Council Monday announced its support for several bills before the General Assembly that toughen penalties for alcohol-related crimes including high-profile legislation that stems from incidents in the county including “Noah’s Law” and “Alex and Calvin’s Law.” [Montgomery County Council]

Van Hollen wins straw poll, Edwards leads in Goucher poll

Rep. Chris Van Hollen beat his U.S. Senate Democratic primary competitor Rep. Donna Edwards in a Young Democrats of Maryland poll, but she edged him out in a Goucher College poll in the past week, leading analysts to believe the race may be in a dead heat. [The Washington Post]

Former Marriott executive Kathleen Matthews reported holdings of at least $22.5 million, state Sen. Jamie Raskin reported income of $350,000 in 2014 and Del. Kumar Barve listed an income of nearly $82,000 in 2014. The figures were released as part of financial disclosure statements the Democratic candidates must file ahead of the April primary.
