The National Weather Service says strong and severe thunderstorms are possible for Montgomery County and much of the Washington, D.C., region Wednesday afternoon and evening.
The weather service issued a Tornado Watch for the entire region, meaning severe thunderstorms or isolated tornadoes are possible.
Winds are expected to be 16 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph, according to the weather service. The thunderstorms could also include heavy rain and frequent lightning.
The Tornado Watch is in effect until 11 p.m.
Strong winds following the Wednesday storm could lead to wind advisories Thursday.
