Rain, even thunderstorms expected this week — Temperatures will mostly remain in the 40s, meaning the rain expected to hit Tuesday and Wednesday will remain rain. Temperatures on Wednesday could reach the 60s, but will be accompanied by showers and strong thunderstorms. Cold weather will return with a slight chance of snow flurries Sunday.
Monday: Examining the school system’s construction budget — The County Council’s Education Committee is set to take up the school system’s capital budget request and County Executive Ike Leggett’s capital budget recommendations at 2 p.m. Monday in the third-floor conference room of the Council Office Building in Rockville. If approved by the council, Leggett’s recommended $1.57 billion over the next six years for schools would be the highest amount ever, but still about $140 million short of what the Board of Education asked for.
Monday: Board of Education finalizes new policy on workplace bullying — The board’s Monday evening session will start at 6 and include final action on a new policy to curb bullying and harassment between school system employees.
Tuesday: Full County Council returns from brief recess — After not meeting last week, the council will return for a regular session at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. The first item of business will be officially recognizing the new Montgomery County Economic Development Corp. as the county’s economic development arm.
Thursday: Talking parks in downtown Bethesda — The eighth Bethesda Downtown Plan work session is set for the Planning Board’s Thursday afternoon session and will focus on parks and open space. Planners and commissioners will discuss implementation strategies for new parks in the downtown area, one of the major goals of the plan.
Thursday: Rock Spring community meeting — From 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria at Bethesda’s Walter Johnson High School (6400 Rock Spring Drive), staff from the Planning Department and Montgomery Parks will talk about parks and transportation in Rock Spring as part of that area’s master plan process.
Thursday: Rockville Town Center stakeholders gather to talk parking — Merchants, property owners, residents and others will take part in a work session to discuss parking issues at Rockville Town Center. The event is set for 7 p.m. Thursday in the mayor and council chambers at Rockville City Hall (111 Maryland Ave.).
Friday: Panel discussion on ‘The Future of Housing for Grown-Ups’ — Federal Realty Investment Trust is one of the hosts for the event that will examine local and national housing trends for adults and seniors. It will run from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at The Stories at Congressional Plaza, the 48-unit apartment complex for seniors that Federal Realty recently completed at 1626 East Jefferson St. in Rockville.
Saturday: 8th Congressional District debate sponsored by the Montgomery Sentinel — The newspaper is hosting the forum between Democratic candidates starting at 5:30 p.m. at the County Executive Office Building (101 Monroe St., Rockville).
Sunday: 8th Congressional District debate sponsored by the District 16 Democratic Club — The candidates for the Democratic nomination will meet again Sunday, this time for a forum starting at 3 p.m. at Walt Whitman High School (7100 Whittier Blvd.) in Bethesda.
