Play in a Day – Saturday – Imagination Stage, Bethesda

Six professional theater companies from the Washington, D.C., area will race against the clock to write, direct, rehearse and then perform a play in 24 hours. The event starts Friday night when the groups come together to receive the themes and props that will guide their plays. The plays will be performed starting at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15.

Let’s Dance, A Tribute to David Bowie – Friday night – Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club

A cover band consisting of D.C.-area musicians will perform a number of late pop star David Bowie’s hits at the Bethesda venue Friday. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $15.

John Hammond – Friday night – AMP by Strathmore, North Bethesda

Blues legend John Hammond, fresh off winning the Blues Music Awards 2015 Best Acoustic Album for his new release Timeless, will play songs from his career of 50-plus years. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets range from $30 to $40.

Never Shout Never – Friday night – The Fillmore Silver Spring

This alternative rock band out of Joplin, Missouri, has been performing since 2007 and has released five albums. The band will appear at The Fillmore with opening acts Metro Station, Jule Vera, Waterparks and The Great Heights Band. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $15.

National Philharmonic: Vivaldi’s Gloria – Saturday and Sunday – The Music Center at Strathmore, North Bethesda

Cellist Zuill Bailey will join the National Philharmonic for two performances of the joyful Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi. Works by Piatigorsky and Beethoven will also be performed. The Saturday night show starts at 8 and the Sunday matinee starts at 3 p.m. Tickets range from $19 to $79.
