Montgomery County police say a man with a gun, khakis and face coverings robbed two area banks in 30 minutes on Saturday morning.
The first robbery happened at 9:18 a.m. at the PNC Bank at 10211 Old Georgetown Road in the Wildwood Shopping Center in Bethesda. Police said the man, white and believed to be in his 40s or 50s, was wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket, a brown checkered dress shirt, khaki pants and brown dress shoes. His face was covered and he wore gloves.
Police said he approached a bank teller, displayed a small handgun and demanded money. After getting an undisclosed amount of cash, he left the scene .
At 9:46 a.m., the M&T Bank at 10420 Montgomery Ave. in Kensington was also robbed. Police believe it was the same man.
A witness followed the suspect into a nearby parking lot but ran back to the bank when the suspect pointed his gun at the witness, police said.
Police on Sunday said they believe the suspect is also responsible for three other previous bank robberies in the area.
The first happened Jan. 27, 2012 at the M&T Bank branch at 10100 River Road in Bethesda. The second occurred on Jan. 8, 2014 at the Capital One branch at 7340 Westlake Terrace in Bethesda and the third on Dec. 9, 2014 at the same M&T Bank branch in Kensington that was robbed Saturday morning.
Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070. Tipsters can also call Crime Solvers of Montgomery at 1-866-411-8477. Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest of this suspect and tipsters can remain anonymous.
