Silver Spring residents will soon have easier access to the spicy harissa, lamb meatballs and grilled chicken that has made Cava Grill popular elsewhere in Montgomery County.
The fast casual restaurant is opening its newest location at 8515 Fenton St. in the downtown Silver Spring development Tuesday. The Mediterranean restaurant fills the space of Baja Fresh, which closed in the fall.
The Cava Grill brand is in the midst of a rapid expansion after starting as a spin-off of the Rockville full-service restaurant Cava Mezze in 2011. In September, the company announced it had raised $45 million in venture capital funding to expand into markets on the East and West coasts. Counting the Silver Spring restaurant, there are 16 Cava Grills in the D.C. area and two in the Los Angela area. Cava also sells its spreads in Whole Foods Market locations and other specialty stores on the East Coast.
On Tuesday, the Silver Spring restaurant will offer free meals to customers as part of a “community day” in which it is encouraging patrons to donate to City Blossoms—a Washington, D.C., nonprofit that creates and tends green spaces for children in urban areas.
